Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound

Cell has been defeated, and the Earth is on its way back to becoming a safe place to live. A new martial arts tournament has been announced, but it is not a world tournament it is a Galactic tournament. With entries from our heroes Gohan, Krillin, Trunks and Piccolo the money is guaranteed to go to one of them. But something goes wrong when inside Battle Island 2 someone was killed. Quickly realizing that these are not the Galactic warriors that were supposed to be in the tournament and instead are Bojack a ruthless galactic pirate and his menacing crew, Gohan must dig deep and get angry in order to summon the strength to defeat this devastatingly strong opponent.

“Bojack Unbound” hit number nine in terms of Dragon Ball Z films made so far. This film takes place anywhere from a year to two years after Goku died and Gohan defeated Cell in the Cell Games. The film is one of my favorites because it is the first film to not focus on Goku and focus on Gohan, and the potential the young Saiyan warrior possesses. Music is the score from the anime and a little disappointing because of how great the battles are in this film. Action has transferred over from the show with some to spare Gohan kicks butt in this film though at the end needing to draw encouragement from Goku to save the Earth. It is nice to see that Gohan wasn’t a one hit wonder with Cell that if the show would have kept him in those teen years we may have fallen for the new hero is was showing us. No difference in this films plot from other films but it is the first to have Goku only in the film for a few minutes and most of those are him eating in front of a TV watching the tournament from the Other World. My biggest gripe with this film is that Vegeta has lost his fighting spirit, granted throughout the show his only goal is to be stronger than Goku and with his death I guess he is correct in saying that he is the strongest Saiyan in the Universe. The thing is the Vegeta we all know would never stop fighting his pride wouldn’t let him. They do fix this later in the film with Vegeta showing up to help defeat Bojack, but like I said personally people would believe that Vegeta would never give up on getting stronger. All in all, “Bojack Unbound” though plot is similar to other DBZ films and with Vegeta disappointing me a little bit, this film is one of the top 5 DBZ films made. With its great action and giving us a new hero to root for even if for only a short time, any DBZ fan and even those who have not seen the series can enjoy.

Good:
-Action is top notch
-Gohan actually showing he has what it takes to be the hero
-Plot though not entirely different is still very good
-Lack of involvement from Goku, it’s nice to see someone else take control

Bad:
-Music
-Vegeta in the beginning its just sad to see

Scully Rating: 7.5 out of 10
