Anime Opening: Future Diary (Mirai Nikki)

Zach Goodier

Been a while since we shared an anime opening, so here's the show I've been watching lately.  Robert reviewed this show a while back, and highly recommended it to me.  So far, the show has been amazing, a very interesting story driven by a cast of strong characters, in particular Yuno.  Yuki is a very interesting male lead, who is very isolated right from the start, but vulnerable once he is forced into the survival game.  Yuno, being a secret stalker for Yuku, fills this character flaw by being driven entirely by the need to protect Yuki, but Yuno herself is sometimes more dangerous than the people trying to kill Yuki.  Her obsession is only the start of her psychosis, that rears its ugly head regularly.

It's interesting because there are many points in the series where Yuno seems completely normal, even adorable, but then with the spontaneous flip of the switch, she's in psycho mode (women, right fella's?).  This makes her come across as very unstable, and it has been constantly in question if Yuki is really doing the right thing by trusting in her.  This suspense is aided by the fact that as the viewer, you are constantly questioning that yourself, since it seems like her instability could really be the death of Yuki, but you're never quite sure how.

So in short, I would highly recommend this show if you haven't started watching it yet.  This show has a strong cast, and an excellent story.  So go start watching it, already, unless you're put off by the violence and blood, because this show doesn't hold back on the the darker themes and imagery.  But that in no way gets in the way of the excellent action and plot.
