Bleach 642: Baby, Hold Your Hand 4 [Eyes Are Open]

Zach Goodier

Nemu's past is revealed, and we see she is the 7th generation of the "Godly Souls" Project named "Nemuri." Kurotsuchi was attempting to create souls from nothing, and after several failed attempts, Nemu was his only success. The name "Nemuri" means "sleep," which Kurotsuchi felt ironic because the project was his dream, which he said one cannot dream without being asleep.

Back in the present, Nemu leaps to her captain's aid, saving him from Pernida's deadly grip. Kurotsuchi again says he never ordered her to do any such action, to which she replies her mission is to protect him, and he reluctantly allows her to take his place in the fight. She then converts 6% of her soul into power so she can fire an attack on Pernida. Can Nemu stop Pernida's rampage, or is the Soul King's left arm beyond even her reach?

Bleach 641: Baby, Hold Your Hand 4

Zach Goodier

Nemu brings the healing supplement to captain Kurotsuchi, and he regenerates his arm. He then prepares a counterattack to coagulate Pernida's body through his own nerves, having Nemu plant the drug while he runs interference. However, before the drug can finish the job, Pernida tears off his infected limbs to stop the spread. Kurotsuchi then realizes that behavior was akin to Kenpachi Zaraki, who he had attached his nerves to. It is only then that he realizes why it felt like Pernida has been growing his awareness when he connects to different people. It is in this way that he's seeming to learn from his fights.  Now, he sets his sights on Nemu. Can she be saved, is captain Kurotsuchi going to have to make a sacrifice to protect her, or is there still hope for both of them getting out alive?

Bleach 640: Baby, Hold Your Hand 3

Zach Goodier

Just as Pernida is devoured by Kurotsuchi's new modified bankai, he shoots his way out with a bow, reminding the mad scientist that he is in fact a Quincy, and can use a bow to kill his enemies. He then proceeds to create bows at the ends of each of his fingers, and begins firing on Kurotsuchi, who notes the arrows are actually attached to more nerves, making the arrows deadly if they hit. After severing a pierced arm, and soon realizes that the nerves on the ground can redirect the arrows, too late to evade the arrow coming at him from behind. However, Nemu blocks the attack by sacrificing her own arm, which she quickly severs to avoid being killed. Kurotsuchi then saves her from falling on the nerves and scolds her for her reckless action, using her full name, and telling her to never die unless he orders her to.

Bleach 639: Hold Your Hand 2

Zach Goodier

Kurotsuchi faces a powerful counterattack, as Pernida's severed finger spawns another hand, and joins in the assault. It is then that Kurotsuchi revels in realizing that Pernida is the Soul King's "Hand of Advancing," that can create new flesh for itself and multiply in combat, as opposed to the right hand of "Stopping," that can halt the advancement of conditions like illnesses. Realizing his chance, Kurotsuchi unveils his new "altered" bankai, that has 70,000 nerve layers, making it in constant pain, but unable to be controlled by Pernida. And, like Pernida, this new bankai can spawn new versions of itself. It quickly begins to devour Pernida, with Kurotsuchi calmly stating that if Pernida can penetrate all 70,000 nerve layers, he might be able to escape. As Pernida disappears, is this the end of the fight, or is there more to this bizarre and dangerous foe?

Bleach 638: Boiling Malice and Total Comedy

Zach Goodier

Pernida attacks again, and Kurotsuchi seems eager to explore his opponent's abilities. Pernida demonstrates that he can also influence objects and buildings by running his nerves through them. Kurotsuchi also shows he has been able to copy the Quincy Hirenkyaku technique, allowing him to stay off the ground, which is lined with Pernida's nerves. However, when Pernida finally latches his nerves onto Kurotsuchi's body, it doesn't work. The mad scientist explains he's reworked his blood vessels and nerves to make it impossible for Pernida's power to work on. Seemingly at a stalemate, presently, the two prepare for round two of their battle.

Bleach 637: Baby, Hold Your Hand

Zach Goodier

Pernida reveals his true form: the left arm of the Soul King. This raises a lot of questions, such as how the Soul King's left arm is serving the man who seeks to kill the Soul King, but more pressingly, how will Kurotsuchi handle this revelation? He feels instantly thrilled, because he's witnessing power from a being that few have even glimpsed before, and he revels at the thought of learning more about this creature, but first, he has to survive it. As Pernida begins to unleash his nerve attacks, and grow out to his full size, he lashes out to attack the mad scientist, who is holding his own, but how will he stop this force of nature, and what does Pernida's working for Juha Bach mean?

Bleach 636: Sensitive Monster

Zach Goodier

Kenpachi lunges forward to strike Pernida, who manages to mangle Kenpachis arm as he lands the first strike. Seeming at a draw, with a clear wound on Pernida's head, and Kenpachi's arm broken beyond use, the tables soon turn again as Kenpachi lunges forward again, after a brief argument with Kurotsuchi. However, Kurotsuchi intervenes by stabbing Kenpachi with his zanpakuto, shutting down his nerves. It turns out, this was to save him, as Kurotsuchi has figured out Pernida's power: the ability expand the reishi in his veins to extend his bodily control to his opponents body, making it contort and twist itself into ruin. Basically, he uses his own nerves to hijack parts of an opponents body to make it harm itself from the inside. Kurotsuchi even uses some of his drugs on Pernida as his nerves are momentarily exposed to attack, and Pernida starts to "melt." Is this a result of the drug, or is Pernida starting to finally reveal his true form?

The battle between Bazz and Hashwalth is over; meanwhile, Liltotto and Giselle have fallen trying to kill Yhwach, and the Sternlichter are still trying to locate the rest of the intruders. Grimmjow is still in pursuit of Askin, but the battle takes a dangerous turn when Grimmjow is hit with a poison ball and drops to the ground. Kenpachi and Kurotsuchi are also facing off with Pernida, who's abilities continue to confuse, but if there's a pair that can face him, it's those two.
