Resident Evil 6

Well seems like the Umbrella Corporation is at it again and players must once again face the undead and mutated entities of the “Resident Evil” universe in the latest installment to the franchise “Resident Evil 6”. This third person shooter takes a new perspective to how you play the main story compared to previous “Resident Evil” games, players can choose from three scenarios each with its own main character with interlocking storylines to each of the scenarios you choose to play from. The stories are told from the perspectives of Chris Redfield, a former member and founder of the BSAA traumatized by a failed operation from his past, Leon S. Kennedy, a Raccoon City survivor and agent for the U.S. government and Jake Muller, the illegitimate son of Albert Wesker (the big badass you just can’t seem to kill no matter how hard you try). They must all confront the force behind a massive bio-terrorist attack with the newly developed C-virus in cities across the world that’s caused massive chaos and wide spread terror. Player’s characters from each scenario will have their own partners which are controlled by either the computer AI or another human player via local or online multiplayer. And as in previous games while playing in single player, the player can allow another player to join in online at any time during missions allowing friends to easily join each other to tackle this biological threat. A new feature to the gameplay comes in the form of tablets, in which players can recover health at the push of a button; more tablets can be produced by locating herbs hidden throughout the levels as in previous games. The game comes stocked with several primary enemies, including zombies and the newly introduced J'avo. Unlike zombies, J'avo are able to interact with each other to plan an attack, use weapons, and heal themselves, certain enemies drop skill points when killed, which can be picked up and spent on upgrades such as increased weapon power or increase ammo your guns can hold. Players can equip three of these upgrades which apply to all the campaigns scenarios you have to choose from. The game also features the Mercenaries mode, which is essentially a horde mode where players must defend themselves against wave after wave of enemies trying to survive as long as they can. Also added to “Resident Evil 6” is the Agent Hunt mode which allows players to take control of random enemies in other player’s games in certain levels to try and take down the player, this mode luckily can be turned off for those players faint of heart.

“Resident Evil 6” really outdoes itself in the graphics department this time around with incredibly well designed worlds and the massive amount of detail put into the environment as well as the look and feel of the enemies you face both old and new. The game however faults with the new interlocking stories, this was a good idea but it leads to players having to replay crucial and often times annoying parts of the game over again and creates a level of frustration. However “Resident Evil 6” gives what fans of the games love with a level of old school horror and gore that player’s love and appreciate finding an overall enjoyable game.

Good:
-Incredible graphics and design work
-Intriguing characters
-Gives fans exactly what they know and love
-New game modes, going into Agent Hunter mode and taking down a player is a lot of fun

Bad:
-Repeating key moments over again really will frustrate player
-Main campaign had a good idea with interlocking storylines but would have been better if you played the characters stories one after another and have the story develop that way

Scully Rating: 8 out of 10
