In the News: Bethesda Announces Elder Scrolls Anthology

Bethesda is going to release EVERY Elder Scrolls title ever made, along with DLC, for the price of $79.99.  While that is definitely not a small chunk of change, what you get for it is unbelievable: almost 20 years worth of one of the coolest video game franchises out there.  As of right now, it's only confirmed for PC, and I believe it is likely to stay that way.  Still, getting all 5 main games, loaded with all DLC content, is a pretty cool deal.  This edition also includes the maps for every region ever explored in the games, and has some cool looking box art as well.

I'm happy to see that Bethesda is celebrating one of their most beloved franchises, and I may consider picking this up once I get an updated PC that can tackle Skyrim on ultra settings.  This set is going to be released September 10th in the US, and the 13th in Europe.  Don't be surprised if the site stops posting for the next year or so, that just means that I'm busy playing through the set, and might need some help keeping myself fed.

Skyrim DLC to PS3!?!?

Hey guys, it's Dibby, and I have great news for all you Skyrim lovers out there. After we bought the game for PS3 and not received a single DLC yet.... WE WILL BE GETTING IT!!!  We just need to be a little more patient, and I know it’s hard, but just kill a few more Frost Trolls and Dragons. On February 10^th Bethesda released the newest patch v1.8 which will allow all PS3 owners to eventually get the DLC that they will release over a series of several weeks.

                Dawnguard – February 12^th

                Hearthfire- February 19th

                Dragonborn- February 26^th

To make up for the wait (which seemed to be an eternity) they are going to offer the DLC for 50% off during the week of its' release. So if you want them for cheap, you better get to them quick and do not hesitate. To see our thoughts in our reviews take a look at the Games section of our website.

Dragonborn (Skyrim DLC)

Well it looks like we just can’t get enough of “Skyrim” because players are going back for more in the new DLC “Dragonborn,” but this time around players will be leaving the shores of “Skyrim” and heading off to a new land waiting to be explored. The story starts as players set out with their favorite dragonborn character, minding your own business, when a group of strange cult members appears before you and attacks you in the name of the original dragonborn. Yes, that’s right, the original dragonborn is coming back to the land of the living and he doesn’t like the idea of anyone else proclaiming the name of dragonborn and that means you. After players encounter with the cultists, you are left with a letter telling players they came from the land of ”Solstheim” where the new story takes place; and boy, are players in for a treat. The new area of “Solstheim” gives players a feeling that they had when they first set out across ”Skyrim,” slaying dragons and exploring new locations, the massive island comes with ever changing scenery and getting around will zap quite a bit of your time. The expansion's size aside, don't expect the gameplay to feel too different from what's already been seen; but hey, why would you want it to? The main quest involved dungeon-diving almost immediately after rolling onto the shores of “Slostheim,” and not exploring the frontier, but luckily the beauty of “Skyrim” is there are no set paths and players can set out and explore if they wish. And fortunately, there are a plenty of side quests that will take you all over the island, and these are so easily stumbled upon, much like the regular game world. Perhaps one of the most appealing new attributes to the latest DLC is the ability to fly dragons, yes you heard me, players can now take to the skies and control the power of dragons; and boy is it a lot more fun than riding on horseback. Alongside this, players are introduced to a new shout, Dragon Aspect, which gives you the power of a dragon and looks pretty cool once you switch it on too, with this shout enemies and bosses alike will be child’s play against you.

“Dragonborn” brings with it a main quest that is quite lengthy, lasting roughly five hours depending on your pace and if one complaint could be made it would be the twenty dollar price tag that may have you feeling a little ripped off. But the size of the landscape, the amount of new weapons and shouts to score, and the fact that it’s almost impossible to not happen upon a laundry list of optional side quests makes “Dragonborn” a meaty and very worthwhile expansion to the main game. Essentially, the DLC brings with it the enjoyment of “Skyrim”, and the new loot and abilities will absolutely overpower your characters for the return trip back to the mainland. However, if you feel as though you’ve seen everything that “Skyrim” had to offer, then it’s time to download this “Dragonborn” and let your friends know that any plans you have with them are off.

-Flying dragons, how cool is that, I mean that’s just awesome

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Elder Scrolls fans come one come all to the latest installment to the franchise “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim”, gamers are placed back into the action role playing and open world splendor they’ve come to love from the Elder Scrolls universe and are going to be amazed at what is in store. “Skyrim” follows in the footsteps of its predecessors where you are placed in a massive and incredibly designed world to be explored and find hundreds of treasures, quests and intriguing characters. At the beginning of the game you are given the option to choose and create your character in any way you see fit, with a wide variety of species and races to choose from such as Nord, Elves, Redkin or even Khajiit (if you are up for being a cat person, literally) and from there you can add even more personal touches to your character such a facial features to really make your character your own. From there you set out for adventure exploring the incredibly well design world set before you, whether you choose to follow the highly enjoyable main storyline or set out on your own seeking loot and other challenges is entirely up to you. “Skyrim” provides so much to see and do gamers will be hooked for endless hours of enjoyment and perhaps one of the biggest attractions that will have players hooked comes from one of the most unique and challenging enemies in the game, Dragons. Part of the games experience is taking on the mantle of the Dragon-born, a warrior who fights Dragons and is able to steal their power by absorbing their soul, these dragon souls can be used to unlock Thunes or words of power found all over the game and unlock powers for your character that range from things such as the ability to breathe fire, create a blast of wind or even freeze time. If that weren’t enough to get you excited about “Skyrim”, players can further their characters power through gaining experience and leveling up their characters making them a force not to be taken lightly. Players gain experience for doing various in game activities such as killing opponents and completing the various story and side quests, when you choose to level up you are given the option to upgrade your skills any way you’d like whether you want to upgrade your stealth to make you undetectable by enemies or upgrade your swordsmanship skills to make you handy with a blade and so much more. “Skyrim” is a game that comes jam packed with so many things to see and do you will find it hard just to pull yourself away from the action.

“Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” offers a mesmerizing experience that captures and pulls you into the story and world set before you, this captivating gameplay will have you playing for hours on end and not even realize it because you are having that much fun. And while things may have changed from what people loved about the last Elder Scrolls games, fans will find all new things to love whether it be the intriguing characters, well-crafted story or the badass dragons that need slaying, “Skyrim” has something for everyone.

Good:

-Compelling story

-Incredibly design world

-Massively customizable characters

-Complete freedom to do whatever you like

Bad:

-Not a thing

Dawnguard (Skyrim DLC)

The dragon-born is back for more with the release of “Skyrim’s” first downloadable expansion giving gamers even more than they already had; “Dawnguard” brings a new story for gamers to follow along with new perks, powers and new transformation the Vampire Lord. While there were already vampires in “Skyrim” these creatures are a cut above the vampires we’ve seen before with amazing powers that can be upgraded through the new skill tree brought to the game for the Vampire Lord, a skill tree will also be brought to those Werewolf players out there. With this DLC also comes a level cap increase, for those players who have reached their level 50 limit, players can continue increasing their abilities to new heights. Add onto the fact that “Dawnguard” offers a massive new quest to be followed, gamers will have their hands full for a while with “Skyrim” action if they have already gone through the main story line and have become a full-fledged dragon-born and adds even more excitement for those who haven’t. 

“Dawnguard” still brings out all that players love or will come to love from “Skyrim” offering even more incredible graphics and design put into the new quest line players can follow, new and incredibly jaw dropping battles come from this new DLC. For the reasonable price of twenty dollars “Dawnguard” offers so much for anyone to enjoy and while the DLC alone doesn’t offer the overall lasting appeal of “Skyrim”, the benefits given through the DLC can continue to enhance your adventuring.

Good:

-Level cap increase

-New transformation class

-Expansive and highly enjoyable new quest

Bad:

-Minor quarks here and there

Hearthfire (Skyrim DLC)

The second and hopefully not the last downloadable content to come out for the massively successful action role-playing game “Skyrim”. “Hearthfire” brings something completely knew to the “Skyrim” universe now giving players the ability to purchase various plots of land where you can build your own massive estate and adopting your very own bundle of joy. By taking of the new crafting table option you can create your own home and add additions on to your home such as a library, armory and extra bedrooms which can be fully stocked and decorated to make your home roomier. With the added option of gaining the assistance of a steward, which will stay in your home and provide anything you could ever need for your home, but you may have to go through the occasional attack from unfriendly Mudcrab or Bear. And to continue to make your cozy little home life even better is by adopting a child and if you gotten around to it you can move in your wife to your home as well. While this isn’t something that “Skyrim” fans were clamoring for but “Hearthfire” supplies a massive amount of fun and enjoyment for anyone who’s an accomplished Dragon-born or just starting out.

This “Skyrim” DLC offers a lot of opportunity to customize your own lifestyle and make your character even more unique than it already is. And even with players who don’t enjoy what “Hearthfire” has to offer, the $4.99 price won’t have them complaining for long. With all “Skyrim” has to offer “Hearthfire” brings even more to love.

Good:

-Owning your own home to customize and enjoy

-Having a steward to supply anything you need

-Only $4.99 for so much to enjoy

Bad:

-No new quest to follow

-May not be something every “Skyrim” fan was looking for
