Boruto: Naruto the Movie

By: Robert Murphy

The Village Hidden in the Leaf has gone through tremendous changes since the 4th Great Shinobi War, an era of peace has been ushered in the likes of which has never been seen and Naruto stands at the top of it all trying to be the Hokage he always dreamed of being. Well, he certainly has succeeded in this endeavor as the village has never been more prosperous, even technologically advanced with cell phones, computers and portable video game systems. But, this story isn't about him rather this story is about the next generation of ninjas to come forth in this new era.

Boruto is the son of Naruto and Hinata and unlike his father Boruto is a uniquely gifted ninja right from the get go, he is practically the new Sasuke of this generation despite Sarada Uchiha the exceptional ninja some of us got to see in the ten chapter Naruto Gaiden manga. He also has some deep issues with his famous father who never seems to be around for him or the rest of his family, Naruto suffering from serious workaholic syndrome and even using multiple shadow clones around the clock to keep up with everything. Nonetheless Naruto doesn't come off as a golden example of a father especially to Boruto who wants nothing more to surpass him by becoming even more skilled than he already is.

Boruto's complete opposite narrative in terms of the character Naruto use to be was an interesting take for the movie to go with as he suffers from generally being spoiled by his talents and the generation of peace the ninja world finds themselves in. Boruto always looks for the easy way out of a situation and when anything becomes to hard for him he quickly quits and moves on because failure is not and option for him. This leads him to rely on a member of the Scientific Ninja Corps who has developed a ninja scroll launching tool that allows even genin ninja to use powerful ninjutsu with the flick of the wrist. It's an amazing piece of machinery to see in action but it's further proves just how spoiled of a character Boruto is and Naruto even points out that his son is just too "clean" meaning he doesn't try hard to obtain what he is after. But, despite my distaste for Boruto as a character he does shine through here and there when you realize he is just a kid who wants to be validated by his father and that eventually comes at the half way mark for the movie, only to be ripped away moments later by the main and easily forgettable enemy.

The second half of the movie morphs into something entirely different from the first half of the story once an unknown pair of enemies comes to take Kurama away from Naruto. These two appear just as Kaguya does and they apparently were enemies against her, stealing the seeds from the great tree in order to unlock hidden power. The two are basically rip offs of Kaguya though and bring nothing new to the story or the narrative for that matter. The whole situation really serves as nothing more than another moment to show off how powerful Naruto and Sasuke have become. The battle that ensues is an exceptional one with even the Five Kage stepping in to show of their own abilities but still it felt like a step away from everything that has happened up until this point and that Boruto and his father's issues take a back seat just like they always have.

Boruto's role in this finally portion of the movie is nothing more than the onlooker and the attempt to include him in this portion of the battle felt quite ridiculous. He is able to do damage on this final enemy, who let's remember is on the level of Kaguya, by using his rasengan which is quite different from his dad's or anyone else's as it's distorts space and then reappears. Just like the ninja scroll tool however it is neat but otherwise underwhelming. It serves as a weak reason for how Boruto now feels the confidence to never give up and even rely on his teammates more in the future. Furthermore, the final father-son attack scene doesn't appear to be enough to clear up some of the clear issues both Naruto and Boruto have with one another. It all feels rather rushed and unresolved by the end.

Unlike Naruto Gaiden, the Boruto movie does little to show off the new generation of ninja that will one day advance far beyond Naruto and his friends have. Boruto himself was an all around upsetting character to deal with is as he just comes off as a spoiled kid whose made at his dad for no reason. Naruto himself doesn't come out of this squeaky clean especially when he uses clones for important points in his families life, even emailing them congratulations, but whatever the case it just doesn't work out. The story feels rushed and the enemies are forgettable making the future of the Boruto's generation seem a bit disappointing.

Good:

- The final fight scene is fantastic

- Animation is top notch

Bad:

- Boruto is a spoiled and frankly annoying lead character

- Enemies are insanely forgettable

- Movie feels like two separate tales and neither end satisfyingly

Naruto 693: Once Again...

By: Robert Murphy

Well after almost a two week break the latest chapter of Naruto has finally come our way. To recap, last chapter we saw the defeat of Kaguya and the end of this long and ancient conflict, everyone was returning to the other side and the Tailed Beast were free once more. However, it seems that things can never stay peaceful for long and Sasuke has made his move now for his future plans to be hokage and create a revolutionary change in the ninja world. This meant the capture and soon the death of all the Tailed Beast and Naruto was not about to let that happen. A final conflict is about to begin but who will be left standing over the other this time around, the stage is now set for a legendary battle and one we've all been waiting for.

Naruto 692: Revolution

By: Robert Murphy

Well what were the odds of this sort of thing coming up is all I have to say about this week's chapter of Naruto. Things were finally starting to come to an end with Kaguya and Black Zetsu finally being put to bed and all the past reincarnated ninja that Kabuto had brought back were returning to the other side once more. Naruto said his final farewell to his father and managed to squeeze a whole lifetime of information to share with his dad before he goes and all of this came to a close on the day of his birth. It is sad in this chapter to see the certain people that we happen to lose, one in particular tugged at my heartstrings a little when I saw that he didn't survive but there are many favorite characters that we've lost in this war I'm sure. Things won't be wrapping up quite as nicely as I'd hoped and it would appear that one more challenge is laying in wake and the prophecy for Naruto, being the child of destiny, is about to begin.

Grab your tissues everybody because the feels are pretty heavy in this week's chapter of Naruto. I'm not entirely sure why we've been receiving the chapters a day later than usual but hey I'm happy that we're still getting them period. This week's chapter is full of goodbyes and finally wrapping up all the war and bloodshed that has come over the shinobi world as Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura and Kakashi have all been returned to their home and Kaguya and Black Zetsu are finally put to rest, hopefully to never return. The Sage of Six Paths also has some kind words and wisdom to bestow onto the group as well and just about everything will come to a close quite nicely after all. Jump on in and find out for yourself though in this week's chapter of Naruto

Naruto 689: I like you

By: Robert Murphy
Link to the manga here

Hey guys and girls, looks like Naruto is back again after a short break last week and boy was I was ready to find out just what was going to happen next. To recap last chapter we saw Obito give his last sacrifice for Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi and Sakura and set off on his way to the other side to finally reunite with Rin after all this time. As it turns out though this wasn't the last gift he was going to give as he leaves Kakashi a farewell gift that would help him bring up his game in this fight with Kaguya, Obito's other sharigan eye. This has allowed Kakashi to unlock his own susanoo as well as a hefty amount of power to go along with it. Hopefully this will be enough to help Sasuke and Naruto in their fight as Kaguya has unleashed a ten tailed beast form upon them, not quite what we've seen before but mainly just a blob of all the tailed beasts rolled into one. What does this mean? and what's going to happen next? Well you'll have to read this week's exciting chapter and find out, peace out everyone.

Naruto 688: The Sharingan's....!!

By: Robert Murphy
Link to the manga here

Hey everyone, time once again for our latest entry into the Naruto universe and things continue to heat up more and more. Last week we saw the tragic end to one of my favorite characters Obito who sacrificed himself to not only save Naruto and Sasuke but Kakashi as well. I know I may get the eye rolls for liking Obito but even before Naruto changed his ways I still liked him as a bad guy too, he was a solid character in my book. Anyway, it seems like Kakashi keeps on being the on looker to all that is going on around him because his chakra is a tiny spec compared to Kaguya and the new abilities of Naruto and Sasuke. Now though it would appear that he is going to get in the game in a big way with one final gift from the grave just as Obito did before, he does it again for Kakashi. Hopefully it will be enough to at least help out in this upcoming battle as it seems that Kaguya is finally on the defenses and fading fast. Hop on in for this latest chapter everyone and I hope you enjoy, I'll see you all next week.

Naruto 687: You will

By: Robert Murphy

Hey everyone, it's a new week and that means it's time for some more Naruto action to enjoy. Last week we saw Naruto and Sasuke reunite with everyone and Kaguya was not pleased by this develepment in the least. She moved to end the threat that the two posed right away but at the last moment Kakashi and Obito moved to protect them from a fatal attack. They were going to meet Rin together in the next life together but Obito had other plans as he used his kamui to move all the attacks toward himself. Obito really has changed immensily much like many of the rivals who face Naruto do and in this last act he goes on to meet Rin once again for some time to themselves while Kakashi aids the new generation. It's another tear jerking chapter everyone and I hope you enjoy it, I'll see you all next week for the next chapter of Naruto

Naruto 686: People who left and people who leave something

By: Robert Murphy
Link to the manga here

Hey everyone, it's that time of the week once again for another exciting chapter of Naruto. This week's chapter comes with a sigh of relief after Obito and Sakura were successful in their attempts to find Sasuke in the alternate dimension Kaguya sent him to, although just barely. Now a glimmer of hope returns once again to the fight against this God among shinobi with Sasuke and Naruto being able to combine their powers from the Sage and seal Kaguya away once more but will she allow it. Black Zetsu and Kaguya will now hold nothing back with these two combined in strength against her and we've witnessed her terrifying amount of power up till this point. Naruto and Sasuke still may need some more help before this battle is done and you won't want to miss a second of it in this latest chapter, so come check it out and I'll see you all next time.

Naruto 685: All you have...!!

By: Robert Murphy
Link to the manga here

Looks as though we have a treat for the manga this week boys and girls as the latest chapter of Naruto has come early to us this week. The chapter is entitled "All you have...!!" and puts as right at the point where Naruto, Sakura and Obito's plan has turned into success. Obito realized that Kaguya is using a form of dimension jumping like his kamui ability in his sharingan and was able to jump into the intersection point of all Kaguya's dimensions. Things get a little tricky here though as Sakura must lend Obito her chakra and together they must search the various dimensions to try and find Sasuke before it's too late. Naruto is doing a good job of fooling Kaguya and holding his own against her for now but how long can he do it before her overwhelming power catches him off guard. You will all have to read this week's chapter and find out just what is going to happen, enjoy the early chapter, Murphy out.

Naruto 684: Must be killed

By: Robert Murphy
Link to the manga here

I will say this about Naruto, he is never short on his list of friends even while most of them have been trapped in the Infinite Tsukuyomi he has people ready to help him out. Last week we saw the awakening of Obito who has come back from the edge of death with some help from Naruto's new abilities. Obito is ready to repay this favor and the many other favors that Naruto has done for him after Naruto brought him back from the lost and confused world that Madara placed him in. Sakura, Kakashi and Obito are all ready to help Naruto beat Kaguya but is it enough and will their plans to stop her work? You will all have to join in on the action and see for yourself in this week's chapter of Naruto, "Must be killed".

Link to the manga here

Hello everybody, I'm sorry for the late entry for this week's chapter of Naruto but I have been on a little bit of a vacation. But let's move on to what you're all here for and that is another chapter of Naruto awesomeness, this week's chapter was entitled "I had the same dream as you" and picks up in a bit of crisis for Naruto and Sasuke. After Naruto's completely ridiculous plan met with failure, Kaguya and her Black Zetsu realized that they must separate the two in order to finish gaining control over all the chakra in the ninja world once again. Sasuke now is in an entirely alternate dimension and Naruto stands alone to face this God like power. What is going to happen? Well you'll have to jump on in and find out, hope you enjoy. Murphy out.

Naruto 682: I'm sure you've never seen this

By: Robert Murphy
Link to the manga here

It has been a long time since I've seen a battle like this one, it's good to know that in all this seriousness there is still time for a good joke every once and awhile and this ones a true gem for Naruto. This week's chapter entitled "I'm sure you've never seen this" and picks up after we almost saw the end of Naruto and Sasuke at the hands of Kaguya as they almost became Black Zetsu themselves. Kakashi puts it right in this week's chapter by saying that Kaguya is on a whole other plan of ability, her powers are God-like. At the end of the last chapter we saw though that Naruto and Sasuke have something up their sleeves, a secret tactic that they somehow had time to plan after only being back together for such a short time. Will it be enough to get Kaguya sealed away just like the Sage of Six Paths and his brother did before? Hop on in and find out in this week's chapter of Naruto
